It's a FIRST GRADE "Thing"! So... Grab a book. Put on your hat. Celebrate Seuss, it's as easy as that!I sure enjoy teaching these cute little "things". It has been a wonderful week of writing, rhyming, and reading. Dr. Seuss week is really a celebration of their literacy accomplishments. Oh the things that first graders can do!!!
Oh today, oh today, we played today. We played today in a crazy way! Today Thing 1, Thing 1 came to stay, And with Thing 1, wouldn't you say...
Was Thing 2, Thing 3, and then Thing 4! But it didn't stop there, OH NO, there was more! Thing 5, 6, 7, and 8, Thing 9, 10, 11, and 12... but wait! Thing 13, 14, and 15 too, Thing 16, 17 and then 18 before they were through! So what did all these Things, what did they do? They had fun learning today, at Holy Cross Lutheran School!
It's been a great start to our Dr. Seuss Week! I have had so much fun planning for Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day! The Dr. Seuss collection is great for first grade because the books are at reading levels perfect for this age group, not to mention that kids LOVE to read them. The started the week with our favorite cat! We went into the library and we looked! And we saw him! The Cat in the Hat! And he said to us, "What's that you say! We're reading Dr. Seuss books and we're starting today!" Thank you Mrs. Vanwey for making our library time extra "Seussical" and fun for first grade this week! We read and read and read books by the great Theodore Geisel who would have been 112 years old on March 2. There is nothing better than to see children reading under their breath and enjoying the rhyme and whimsical characters in these books.
Celebrating 100 DAYS of learning, growing, sharing, praying, and friendships at HOLY CROSS! The kids were so excited about this monumental day. After all, we have been counting since day ONE! The students were greeted with a big banner announcing the day. (like they needed reminding!) It set the mood for our hopping happy hundred day hoopla! There was so much more I didn't catch on camera! It was a great day to be in first grade! Now we are ready for day 101!
